Venpongal – வெண் பொங்கல்
Ingredients
- Green Rice – 250g
- Moong dhal – 250g
- Ginger – 1
- Cashewnuts – 10
- Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
- Pepper seeds – 2 tsp
- Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
- Green chilies – 2
- Ghee – Required
- Oil – Required
- Curry leaves – Few
- Salt – Required
How to Prepare
Total Preparation time: 20-30 minutes
- Take a pan, fry rice and moong dhal for 2 minutes in low flame and stir continuously to avoid colour change
- Then soak it water for 10 minutes and wash it 2 times and keep aside
- Chop the ginger and stir green chillies lengthwise and keep aside
- Heat up a pressure cooker and add 2 tbspn ghee and allow it to melt
- Add Asafoetida, ginger, green chillies and fry them gently for 1 minutes in low flame
- Add rice and dal then add 2 liter water
- Add salt and mix it well then close the lid tightly and cook it for 4 whistles in medium flame
- After pressure air goes off completely, open the cooker and stir the rice mixture gently
- Heat up pan, add ghee and once it melts, add cashew nuts and fry it for 1 minutes
- Add cumin seeds, pepper seed, 20-30 curry leaves and saute it for 1 minute
- Pour this seasoning into the cooked pongal mixture
- Mix it well and transfer it into a bowl
- Now the Delicious Venpongal is ready to serve
