Potato Poriyal


Ingredients

  • Potatoes – 5
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Small onions – 3
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbspn
  • Garam masala – A pinch
  • Asafoetida – A pinch
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Coriander leaves – Few
  • Oil – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time 25-30 minutes

  1. Wash the raw potato and peel the skin then cut into small pieces, chop onions and keep aside
  2. Heat the pan with oil, then add mustard seeds
  3. Once it crackles, add urad dal, cumin seeds, asafoetida and fry for 30 seconds
  4. Then add chopped onions and curry leaves and saute it well
  5. After that add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and fry it till raw smell goes off
  6. Then add potatoes and required salt and mix it well
  7. Add 50ml water, mix well, close the lid and cook them for 5 minutes till potatoes get softer
  8. Open the lid, add 1 tsp oil and garam masala
  9. Fry well for 5 minutes in low flame then turn off the flame
  10. Finally garnish with coriander leaves over the poriyal
  11. Now the Potato Poriyal is ready to serve.
