Pavakai Poriyal

Ingredients

  • Baby bitterguards – 300g
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tbsp
  • Peppercorns – 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – A pinch
  • Red onion – 1
  • Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon – 1
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Oil – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time 25-30 minutes

  1. Remove the seeds, chop bitter guard and add water, salt and soak it in water for 10 minutes then drained it and keep aside
  2. Chop onion, extract juice from lemon, chop garlic and keep aside
  3. Take a blender and add 50ml water, chana dal, peppercorns and grind them like a paste
  4. Heat the pan with oil, then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds
  5. Once it crackles, add onion, curry leaves and saute it well till onion become golden
  6. After that add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and fry it till raw smell goes off
  7. Then add bitter guard and required salt and mix it well
  8. Add 100ml water and lemon juice, cook them for 10 minutes till bitter guard become soft
  9. If not cooked after 5 minutes, add some water and cook it again
  10. Then sprinkle grated coconut and saute it for 5 minutes
  11. Finally turn off the flame and transferred it to a bowl
  12. Now the healthy Pavakkai Poriyal is ready to serve.
