Dal Rice – பருப்பு சாதம்


Ingredients

  • Rice – 250g
  • Toor Dal – 65g
  • Small onions – 8
  • Tomato – 1
  • Garlic cloves – 6
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilly powder – 1/4 tsp
  • green chilly – 1
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida – A pinch
  • Oil – Required
  • Ghee – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time: 25-30 minutes

  1. Wash rice and toor dal cleanly then soak it together in 500 ml water for 30 minutes
  2. Chop the onion, chop the tomato then cut the green chilly and chop the coriander leaves
  3. Take a pressure cooker, add 2 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp ghee then heats up
  4. After oil heats up, add mustard seeds followed by cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and asafoetida
  5. Fry it, after mustard crackle add onions and green chillies
  6. Saute it, once onion become golden brown add tomato
  7. Saute it for few minutes till tomato become mushy
  8. After that add turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt and mix it for 3 minutes
  9. Add rice and dal with soaked water then let it to bubble
  10. Tightly close the pressure cooker with lid and cook for three to four whistles
  11. Once all the steams goes off, open the cooker and check the dal rice with spoon slowly
  12. Finally garnish the rice with coriander leaf
  13. Now the Dal rice is ready for serve
