Aval Upma


Ingredients

  • Poha – 250g
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tsp
  • Red onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1
  • Lemon – 1
  • Peanuts – 1 tbsp
  • Cashewnuts – 6
  • Ginger – 1/2
  • Green chillies – 4
  • Curd – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida – A pinch
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Red chillies – 2
  • Coriander leaves – Few
  • curry leaves – Few
  • Ghee – Required
  • Salt – Required
  • Oil – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation Time: 20-30 minutes

  1. Clean the poha 2-3 times and dry roast the poha till the water drains out and keep aside
  2. Chop onions, tomatoes, grate ginger, slit green chillies, chop coriander leaves and keep them aside separately
  3. Take a pan and heat oil and ghee then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds once it crackle add urad dal, chana dal, red chillies
  4. Once dals become golden, add cashew nuts and peanuts fry for 1 minute
  5. Then add onion and green chillies, curry leaves and fry them till become golden brown
  6. Then add tomatoes and salt and saute them till it become mushy
  7. After that add asafoetida, ginger, turmeric powder and saute them for 1 minute
  8. After that add poha/aval and required salt and stir it well for 2 minutes
  9. Turn off the flame and finally sprinkle coriander leaves
  10. Now the healthy Aval Upma is ready for serve
