Valakai Poriyal – வாழைக்காய் பொரியல்
Ingredients
- Raw Bananas – 2
- Urad dal – 1 tsp
- Fenugreek Seeds – 1/4 tsp
- Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder – A pinch
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Small onion – 2
- Coconut – 1/4
- Tamarind – A lemon size
- Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves – Few
- Coriander leaves – Few
- Oil – Required
- Salt – Required
How to Prepare
Total Preparation time 25-30 minutes
- Wash the raw banana and peel the skin half then cut into small ice cube like pieces
- Chop onion, grate coconut, chop coriander leaves, dissolve tamarind, filter it and take the juice and keep aside
- Heat the pan with oil, then add mustard seeds
- Once it crackles, add urad dal, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and fry for 30 seconds
- Then add onion, curry leaves and saute it well till onion become golden
- After that add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and fry it till raw smell goes off
- Then add raw banana and 60ml tamarind juice, required salt and mix it well
- Cook them for 5 minutes till banana get softer
- If not cooked after 5 minutes, add some water and cook it again
- Then sprinkle grated coconut and saute it for 5 minutes
- Finally garnish with coriander leaves over the poriyal
- Now the Valakai Poriayl is ready to serve.
